Just note a few things while travelling from the above-mentioned ways:


1. By Air

There are a limited number of flights to Leh and most of them originate from Delhi or Srinagar. The other option of a partial flight and road trip from Srinagar. You can fly to Srinagar and then take a road trip via Kargil to reach Leh.


But, opting to travel via air would means that you cannot acclimatise very easily and you may suffer from altitude sickness and need a few days to adjust. Hence, carry the necessary medicines for altitude sickness and prepare yourself with the ways to acclimatize.


2. By Bus

You can opt for a bus from Delhi, Manali or Srinagar. It takes approximately 18 hours for Manali to reach Leh via bus.


3. Self-driven vehicle

One of the most adventurous experiences you will ever encounter in your travel life. Every bent of the road will make you feel as if you have entered a whole new country and that's the beauty of the journey to Leh and Ladakh. The stunning landscapes and the myriad colours of the mountains are so surreal.

Best time to visit


The region of Ladakh rests in altitudes ranging from about 9,000 feet (2750m) at Kargil to 25,170 feet (7,672m) at Saser Kangri in the Karakoram. At these altitudes temperature extremities are intense. The best time to visit is in summer between June and October when the temperature is at its most pleasant. November invites heavy snowfall and temperatures drop drastically to negatives.


A few things to note:


  1. Due to its high geographical altitude, oxygen levels are low. Initially you might find yourself breathing a little heavier than usual and its advised that you give your body time to acclimatize before setting out on any physical activity.

  2. Drink lots of water. Keep yourself hydrated.

  3. Avoid alcohol. Alcohol is your worst enemy in a high altitude region like Ladakh

  4. Take it slow. Take deliberate small steps even if it feels like walking at a snail’s pace. During the initial few days of your stay in Ladakh, climbing a single flight of stairs can have you gasping for air.
